Bortnikov saw the process of reshaping relations in the suspension of Russia’s participation in START

Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, told the TV channel: NTV Following Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message to the Federal Assembly that the suspension of Russia’s participation in the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) is a process of reshaping strategic and geopolitical relations.

“There is a process of reshaping relationships. Both strategic relations and geopolitical relations,” Bortnikov said.

Bortnikov admitted that he knew nothing in advance about the part of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s message to the Federal Assembly regarding the suspension of Russia’s participation in the START Treaty, because the president himself worked on this document.

On February 22, the State Duma and the Federation Council unanimously approved Suspension of Russia’s participation in START. Law Project introduced President Vladimir Putin, who announced his decision to suspend participation in the treaty, during the announcement of his message to the Federal Assembly on February 21.
