The head of the Swedish Ministry of Defense, Paul Jonsson, warned that Finland’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance before Sweden could affect defense cooperation between Stockholm and Helsinki.
According to the minister, such a development in events would “complicate” Finland’s defense by NATO, reports RT.
“Sweden’s long-term alienation as Finland becomes a NATO member will complicate Swedish-Finnish defense cooperation, which is unique in nature,” Jonsson said.
He stressed that this would make it somewhat more difficult for Finland to be defended by the alliance, as Sweden was not part of the defense planning.
Sweden and Finland’s applications to NATO were not approved by only two of the 30 countries. Hungary and Turkey did not support the decision.
