Brief statements by President Andrzej Duda and Deputy Prime Minister Mariusz Błaszczak began the meeting of the National Security Council shortly after noon. “Today is the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine, I am happy that we can meet and discuss all security issues,” the president stressed.
The president opened the meeting of the Security Council
I have already called a meeting of the Security Council, you can say traditionally in a sense. Taking into account what is happening beyond our eastern border, the Russian aggression against Ukraine, after a series of major international events clearly related to these issues, as well as the problem of the security of Poland and our whole region, a number of actions that we as Poles have undertaken, including my personal activities, mainly in the international arena, following President Joe Biden’s visit and the Bucharest Nine meeting
the chairman began.
The Supreme Commander of the Polish Armed Forces stressed that the topic of the RCN meeting would be to discuss recent events and activities.
In addition to the head of state, the meeting of the National Security Council was attended by leaders of political groups, defense and interior ministers, marshals of the Sejm and Senate, military commanders and the head of the National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera.
The president opened the meeting of the Security Council, pointing out that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who visited Kiev on Friday, was not participating.
The Prime Minister is in Kyiv today I smile he went there to take our Leopard tanks as the first tanks to arrive in Ukraine as the first of these coalition tank aid we are initiating
– emphasized Andrzej Duda.
“The palm of precedence” of Poland
He added that in connection with the appearance of “these modern tanks on Ukrainian soil”, he is happy that “we also have the palm of precedence in this area”.
And from this point of view, it is good that the Prime Minister is carrying it out today, especially since today, a non-coincidental day – the anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine
said the chairman.
I am glad we can meet and discuss all safety issues
– he added, giving the floor to the Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak
“We consistently build defensive capabilities”
On the one hand, I would like to emphasize our Polish activities in support of Ukraine. On January 11, the president presented this coalition project, which will provide Ukraine with tanks of Western production
– said the Minister of National Defense.
We have formed such a coalition and our cooperation with Germany plays a fundamental role in this
– added.
The minister thanked the heads of the defense ministries of the individual countries, who also donated their tanks, which made it possible to form a battalion to send to Ukraine.
As the president said, Polish leopards have already arrived in Ukraine and at the same time Ukrainian soldiers are being trained – by Polish, Canadian and Norwegian instructors in Świętoszów. On the one hand, there is this dimension of our support, on the other – we are expanding the number of Polish armies
Blaszczak said
Last year saw the highest number of applications for voluntary military service since the suspension of conscription. We consistently equip the military with the latest equipment in NATO standard
he pointed it out.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense listed the equipment purchased last year, such as K2 tanks and K9 gun-howitzers, contracts that have been or will be concluded in the near future, as well as equipment that will soon be delivered to Poland.
We are consistently building the defense capabilities of the Republic of Poland
– he said.
We act in such a way as to deter the aggressor. We are strengthening the Polish army to achieve this goal
– summarized the minister.
