Kwon Jong Geun, Head of US Affairs at the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the continuation of US military exercises and the deployment of strategic weapons on the Korean Peninsula could be perceived as a “declaration of war”. According to him, the DPRK considers the discussion of a sovereign state’s right to self-defense in the UN Security Council as “ugly”. He noted that the United States and South Korea are holding exercises at the Pentagon on the use of expanded deterrence, a “rehearsal for nuclear war” against North Korea.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), four Hwasal-2 strategic cruise missiles were launched from the northeast city of Gimchaek towards the Sea of Japan. They flew about 2,000 km in elliptical and octagonal orbits before hitting the target.
