Everything indicates that there will be three opposition lists in the Sejm elections, KO MP Grzegorz Schetyna said in an interview with RMF FM. He also added that he himself would like to be a candidate for the Sejm, but he did not rule out anything; he also said that it should be confirmed within a dozen days that there will be a joint list for the Senate.
“This is not a disaster for the opposition.”
Schetyna was asked in a morning talk on RMF FM radio whether it was already a foregone conclusion that there would be no common opposition list in the upcoming Sejm elections and whether it looked like the opposition would start with three lists.
Everything points to three lists, and I don’t think this spells disaster for the opposition
Schetyna said.
The PO politician was also asked to comment on the reports that it has already been confirmed that there will be an opposition pact in the elections for the Senate.
Yes, I think it’s a perspective of a few, a dozen days, to make it clear. It has been confirmed that this is the best way to win the Senate
Schetyna said.
When asked if he would run for the Senate, he replied that he was not ruling anything out, but believed he would run for the Sejm.
Maybe that’s how I start, but I believe every thousand votes will be valid today in the elections to the Sejm
Schetyna said.
Prime Minister Tusk or Trzaskowski?
He was also asked whether the president of the capital and deputy head of PO Rafał Trzaskowski (PO) will be “blessed” by Civic Platform president Donald Tusk as the opposition candidate for future prime minister, after a possible victory election.
Today it is difficult to imagine such a scenario, because it is actually “zero-one”. That is, if Trzaskowski decides to do this, he will take over the reins of the entire opposition (…) this is a strategic decision, it must be taken by Donald Tusk (…). I believe Tusk came, returned from Brussels, to win elections with PiS and become Prime Minister, to run the government, so one scenario excludes the other
Schetyna said.
The PO politician also said that all parliamentary parties will definitely participate in the meeting of the National Security Council called by the president on Friday. Current state security conclusions regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will be discussed at the meeting, including in the context of consultations between the presidents of Poland and the US, the National Security Bureau reported Wednesday.
What are the plans for Sikorski?
In the online part of the conversation, Schetyna was also asked if PO MEP Radosław Sikorski could become foreign minister again.
I think he is now a fulfilled politician in the European Parliament, I have heard that there are plans to run him for parliamentary elections, ie for the Sejm, to come back from Brussels
Schetyna said.
However, he noted that he would not write about “who is good at what ministry”.
In the elections to the Sejm, there will most likely be three opposition lists: KO, Lewicy and PSL with Poland 2050 – this is the view recently expressed by politicians of different groups. However, nobody decides anything.
Meeting at the BBN
As for tomorrow’s meeting at the National Security Bureau, Schetyna stated that all political groups would participate.
The point is to talk about what is to come, how to write scenarios for the future regarding armaments, investments in Polish security
– assesses the former PO leader and notes that this also requires the attitude of the opposition.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the unity of Polish politicians on the war in Ukraine.
It is important to speak with one voice – and we succeeded
– said the guest from RMF FM.
Grzegorz Schetyna also referred to US President Joe Biden’s visit to Warsaw, as well as the earlier visit to Kiev. The politician said Biden’s visit to the Ukrainian capital was humiliating for Putin.
This is humiliating for Putin, who a year ago himself dreamed of such a walk through Kiev
– he said.
All the logistics, the idea, the construction and finally this message (from this visit) – I think it’s a really great thing, beyond the standard
Schetyna added.
From President Biden’s speech in Warsaw, the PO politician recalled that “he spoke very clearly about freedom”.
He spoke in Warsaw to Ukrainians, Moldovans, Belarusians, all those who fight for freedom, subjectivity, sovereignty
he summed up.
Grzegorz Schetyna described Joe Biden’s speech as “a speech from the leader of the free world”.
“It is important that the elections are equal and fair”
The politician was also asked whether the parliamentary elections could be manipulated.
If we succeed in establishing an electoral defense force, they will not be rigged
he argued.
It is important that parliamentary elections are equal and fair and that the social factor can determine their course
he assessed.
Schetyna pointed out that cooperation between opposition parties is crucial – even if it is not possible to draw up a joint list.
The opposition will not win the elections if there is no good cooperation between the opposition parties, including between PO and Poland 2050
– added.
