Poland was the first point to receive the most refugees from Ukraine. This reception they experienced from the Poles was a real signal of solidarity, cooperation, partnership and compassion in times of crisis, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said Thursday.
Poland reacted quickly
Speaking at the conference on the occasion of the launch of the Polish thread of the Regional Action Plan for Refugees from Ukraine, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzeziński stressed that Poland responded with lightning mobilization and offering assistance, which was seen by the whole world.
The bar is set very high when it comes to helping refugees
– said Mark Brzezinski.
He stressed that it has been a year since the invasion of Ukraine, which forced more than 8 million people to leave the country.
Poland was the first point to receive the most refugees from Ukraine. The reception they received from the Poles was a real signal of solidarity, cooperation, partnership and compassion in times of crisis. Poland has shown itself as a humanitarian superpower in recent months
– said the US ambassador to Poland.
The US ambassador thanks Poland
He noted that centers were being created where refugees could form relationships in a new, temporary community. Help was also offered to schools, for example, so that every Ukrainian child who wanted to go to a Polish school found a place there. However, the needs of refugees remain enormous.
As long as Putin continues this war, until refugees from Ukraine can safely return to their country, they deserve our unwavering support
– rated Mark Brzezinski.
He added that “America remembers about equality and this equality, you who are here responding to the refugee crisis, you remembered and I thank you for that” – he said.
He stressed that the United States is determined to “provide flexible support” to respond to the most pressing needs.
We also call on others who can provide such support to do so. Of course these needs are more complex this year, more complicated. But above all, we must focus on the dignity of all those who have left Ukraine and the ability to ensure independence until they can safely return to Ukraine
– said the US ambassador to Poland.
A call to the international community
He also pointed out that the support of humanitarian organizations will enable more than 1 million Ukrainians who remain in Poland to work, benefit from medical care and education.
I also call on the international community to continue to rise to this challenge and to respond with compassion to cruelty and destruction, so that together we support our common democratic values, so that we stand up for both Ukrainian and Polish society, which its arms so has opened wide for Ukrainians
– said Mark Brzezinski.
We are all together on the side of freedom and we will stand steadfastly on the side of Ukraine
– added.
He also thanked the Poles, the Polish government and organizations for helping Ukraine.
