The stubbornness to show the important role of one’s own political camp, when this camp cannot deserve this role, can sometimes take on grotesque forms. This is exactly the case with Bronisław Komorowski. The former president of Poland rated Joe Biden’s Tuesday speech as emotional, valuable, but unsurprising. On the other hand, he claims, the US president has shown through his behavior that he is on the side of the Polish opposition when it comes to values, love of freedom and common views.
Komorowski: Kiev, not Warsaw
On Wednesday morning, as a guest of radio RMF24, Bronisław Komorowski summarized the stay of the President of the Republic of Poland in Poland and Joe Biden’s speech to the Poles.
The former president placed what Biden told the Poles “overshadowed by the Polish president’s brief stay” in Kiev. In this way he discerned the importance of Biden’s visits to Kiev and Warsaw.
It was Kiev that attracted the attention of the whole world and was this historic event. The stay in Warsaw turned out to be a camouflage for Biden’s visit to Kiev
said Komorowski.
“Biden was not surprised
I think that the Poles who listened to this speech, as well as the Ukrainians living in Poland, have full satisfaction, because the extermination was based on emotions and the desire to show gratitude to Poles, and this was much needed by Poles and Poles .
– he said. He decided that every statement made publicly is valuable. He also ruled that there was “nothing surprising” in Biden’s speech.
Because the same statements, or even the same words – and fortunately – we have been hearing from President Biden for a long time
– added. He also noted – in connection with the expected new Russian offensive in Ukraine – that Biden’s words “come in a situation where Poles do not feel completely safe”.
A speech without historical significance?
According to Komorowski, the effect of the speech was “slightly spoiled by journalists and politicians who overly gave a historical, groundbreaking character to what President Biden was about to say,” according to Komorowski.
The former Polish president devoted part of his radio talk to the subject of Vladimir Putin’s message to the Russian nation on the anniversary of the aggression against Ukraine, in which Putin “didn’t say anything new either”.
When asked about the restoration of Poland’s relations with Russia during the reign of the current opposition in Poland, Komorowski said that “we cannot be professional Russophobes in the world, because it also weakens our position, but we can be the ones who share the Polish experience, not just Polish fears.”
When Komorowski was asked about Wednesday’s meeting of the “Bucharest Nine” with the participation of the US president and the head of NATO, he expressed the hope that “there will be more political content, not just emotions and feelings that were expressed yesterday.” felt and released today in Kiev.”
“Komorowski’s Departure”
At the end of the conversation, the former president was also asked about Biden’s temporary meeting with the Polish opposition delegation, who took the opportunity to garnish a selfie with the president of the United States.
It’s a standing rule in politics, not just American, but Democratic, that it always tries to indicate that you’re coming to a country in its entirety. And for the sake of balance – on terms other than official meetings – meetings are held with the opposition, for example, especially if it is a democratic opposition. So this is not really anything new
Komorowski did not hide. Then he added:
However, I undoubtedly read in this behavior of US President Biden the desire to show (the opposition – editor’s note) in the sense of democratic values, love of freedom and community of views that “I am with you”.
This is a bit like waving a finger in front of President Duda and Prime Minister Morawiecki
– said Komorowski, suggesting that – as part of “political revenge” – Biden’s open stance on the side of the opposition and against the Polish authorities is not allowed by his Catholicism.
How the behavior of the US president was on the side of the opposition, not on the side of the Polish authorities – the former president of Poland did not explain nor was asked about it on RMF24 radio.
