“Someone today who says that Ukraine should not be helped because it prolongs the war says this: it is necessary to ensure that Russia occupies Ukraine as soon as possible and that peace comes. I tend to disagree. I hope Ukraine will fend off the attackers. I hope that fairness and justice will prevail. It was Russia that attacked Ukraine,” President Andrzej Duda said in an interview with TVN24.
President Duda was asked by editor Konrad Piasecki, among others, about whether Poland can supply Ukraine with F-16 fighters.
We don’t have many F-16s. We have 48. It’s not a big number. We need to replenish our supply of fighters. That’s why we contracted F-35 fighters in the US. Therefore, we decided to purchase FA-50 fighters from South Korea to make this replenishment as soon as possible
noted the chairman.
If decisions are made to transfer jets and fighters to Ukraine, we can first offer what we have left of the post-Soviet stock, namely our MiG-29s that we still have. It is so convenient for Ukraine that Ukraine can already handle them today. Shall we deliver more? This is a matter of our agreements, which we will make with our allies. (…) We are not able, even within the limits of common sense, to transfer only F-16 aircraft, even if it is only two aircraft, because for this we need the entire base, because for this we need we to meet a whole set of requirements that require much broader action, not just a small amount of aid from one country. This must be an allied decision with a broad profile
Duda explained.
