“We must break the circle of oppression.”
Stoltenberg addressed President Joe Biden at the beginning of his short speech.
Mr President, your recent visit to Ukraine, to Kiev, showed even greater and growing support for Europe. (…) I am already looking forward to the next NATO summit after the one in Vilnius. Top in the US. Almost a year after the invasion of Russia, we see that President Putin is not preparing for peace, but for more war. That is why we must strengthen our continued support for Ukraine. We must give Ukraine what it needs to survive. We don’t know when the war will end, but when it does, we need to make sure history doesn’t repeat itself. We have seen the Russian pattern of behavior in the wars of partition in recent years. First Georgia, then Crimea and Donbas, and a full-scale invasion of Ukraine a year ago. We cannot allow Russia to tear off pieces of European security piece by piece. We must break out of this cycle of oppression
says Jens Stoltenberg.
