President Biden’s visit to Poland is not over, it hasn’t even started for good, and it has already become a legend. While this is one event from a technical point of view, it can actually be assumed that the leader of the United States visited Poland three times during the year. The journey from Rzeszów to Kiev and back means that he has been to Poland for the third time. This is an unprecedented situation – there has not been a case in the history of the United States of a US president visiting a country three times a year.
This rhyme should be viewed differently from a child’s play in which you run around a boundary marker, say on a path in the mountains, and boast that you have been abroad. It is about a huge logistical undertaking, about the functioning of the services and the army, about the journey through the war-torn country of the leader of the most powerful power and the fact that Poland helped organize it all. Perhaps someone from the opposition or its media will come, such as a journalist from Radio Zet, who said on the occasion of President Zelensky’s flight from Poland to the United States in December that our authorities did not even know who came to us with the train, where the Americans boarded their plane in Rzeszów and will now claim that Biden’s trip took place without the knowledge of the Polish government and services. There is no shortage of intellectually excluded people, ordinary crowds, but nothing will change the fact that Poles participated in something unprecedented in American history. Our service agents, soldiers, railwaymen, people from the airport service, stations, station masters, etc., indeed, everyone who stood in front of the barrier on the route that day has something to tell their grandchildren about. This is how legends are born.
Brothers in arms
The preparations took weeks, and as pathetic as it may sound, something like a brotherhood in arms is forged during such undertakings, at least among the military and service agents. While many world leaders, the Americans themselves and Biden’s entourage have been to Kiev before, in much more perilous times, they will build the legend of Biden’s romantic adventure. Because it’s a great story for the next presidential election campaign. And the action itself was much more demanding and risky than any previous visit by politicians, apart from the first by our prime minister and then in April the presidents of Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. The Americans have broken all their protocols and rules with us. Never has the President of the United States been on the territory of a country where war is going on and American soldiers are not involved. Biden did it without even using his Air Force One plane or the Beast – the armored car that presidents drive. Adepts of the services will also study the entire operation in the coming years.
Regardless of the pathos and stories, the level of trust between the Polish and American governments, diplomacy, military and services of all levels had to reach the highest possible level. As with brothers in arms – brothers in arms. Anyone who has experienced something like this knows what I am talking about.
A thoughtful and romantic journey
The great surprise of the appearance of the President of the United States in Kiev proves that everything was perfectly prepared. So a careful and romantic journey. From that point of view, Joe Biden’s third visit to Poland is already a success. In the relations that are being built today between the United States and Poland, not only official statements, protocols and declarations are important, but also gestures that go beyond rigid procedures and diplomatic protocol. Taking a picture with President Duda from the train on the Przemyśl – Kiev route is of great value to President Biden and the Democrats, and therefore also to us. Apart from the fact that Biden’s unexpected visit to Kiev is great news for struggling Ukraine, as it continues to believe in victory, in the fact that the world is on its side. That, however, is for a separate story.
Polish authorities have a unique opportunity to build extraordinary, even personal, relationships with Americans. Anyone who claims that sentiments and sympathies play no role in politics is very naive. On the contrary – a very big one, and we owe a lot to such personal relationships with US presidents. Regardless of the exceptionally favorable turns of history, Ignacy Paderewski’s personal friendship with President Woodrow Wilson helped a lot in regaining independence in 1918. We don’t know if Biden wants to go down in history as the one who, along with Ronald Reagan, destroyed Russia’s evil empire, but undoubtedly President Duda, next to President Zelensky, is his greatest ally in this work. The Kiev escapade is just a milestone in building a new order in Europe, not a KPO made of milestones. This is another building block for Poland’s possibly unique position in Europe. The final assessment will come when the visit to Warsaw ends, after the meetings with the Bucharest Nine, but today I risk saying that Germany, as it is now and will be in the near future, is superfluous to the United States as a political partners in Europe. They have nothing to offer America or NATO. It is not true that it is enough to be the richest, to have the largest industry and exports. It takes a lot more to lead than money and machines to sell. Today Germany is an intellectually sterile country, devoid of will and power, a spiritual castrato. We all know that such an escapade with Scholz would be impossible. Let’s skip the risk of Russian agents in the German services, because of the superficiality of mind and spirit it would be impossible to do.
The photos go out into the world. In Ukraine, Poland and the United States they evoke a lump in the throat and tears of emotion. About those who are already grumbling, they say that Poland is showing off, and it really doesn’t matter that it’s all a coincidence, no merit from us, that we are a poor pawn, I will not call it today. I throw up again.
