Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the launch of the EU civil monitoring mission in the border regions of Armenia was an attempt to “squeeze” Russia from the region and weaken its role as a security guarantor. This is stated in his comment Web site ministries.

“Everything is being done to drive Russia out of the region and undermine its historical role as the main security guarantor. The negative evaluations that Baku has made publicly about this initiative are ignored,” the statement said.

According to the representative of the diplomatic mission, the EU mission is linked to the implementation of the EU Common Security and Defense Policy, and therefore, despite the statements of the EU representatives, it is not only of a civilian nature.

Earlier, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, said: To send a 100-person civilian delegation to Armenia to evaluate the investment plan.
