In Suriname, protesters stormed and dispersed parliament in the capital, Paramaribo, and looted shops. Reuters.

Several hundred protesters reportedly joined the riots after a peaceful protest march against the prices of food, fuel and electricity turned into a clash with the police. At the same time, the increase in prices is due to the removal of state subsidies – this was done on the advice of the International Monetary Fund.

Police used other weapons, including tear gas and rubber bullets. In response to the destruction of the Parliament building and Paramaribo headquarters, the Surinamese authorities vowed to deal harshly with the instigators of the riots, and a special task force was created.
