American diplomat Bill Burns warned Washington that Ukraine’s entry into NATO would be the brightest red line for Moscow, but the West ignored it. This is stated in a letter published in the newspaper by Tony Brenton, who was the British Ambassador to Russia from 2004 to 2008. Finance Times.
He states that for 30 years, “those who know Russia best” have warned against NATO enlargement and Ukraine’s involvement in it.
According to the former ambassador, after the outbreak of the conflict in Meydan and Donbass in 2014, former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger wrote that the only solution to the situation was the neutrality of Ukraine.
