“There is a problem with people of the enlightened camp – if you may say so maliciously – that they have difficulty accepting other views. They pretend what they believe is absolutely clear, and anyone who thinks about it must think like them. So the one who thinks otherwise should be shocked and then he will think well. And that’s not true. Others are different, not just a little dumber. However, it is difficult to convince them of their opinion with such an attitude’, says Prof. Jarosław Flis, sociologist.
Prof. Jarosław Flis made no secret of the fact that supporters of the “progressive side” are not too tolerant of supporters of the conservative side, as research shows.
In the United States, liberals have much more difficulty describing conservatives’ motivations in an acceptable way than conservatives do describing liberals’ motivations. For example, conservatives know that liberals care about the underprivileged, about individual freedoms. Conversely, liberals have so much to say about conservatives that they can’t keep up. That’s not respect, that’s just pity. In Poland, Bilewicz’s team investigated feelings towards the other side [prof. Michał Bilewicz, psycholog społeczny z Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego – przyp. red.]. It turned out that freedom-loving atheists dehumanize opponents even more than religious fundamentalists
– said Prof. smoothly.
“The channel the opposition has let in by pursuing a single list is absurd.”
The sociologist also referred to the attacks of some opposition supporters on Twitter against Szymon Hołownia and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz for the fact that PSL and Polska 2050 are starting to cooperate with each other.
The problem with this announcement by Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz is that the Twitter audience, angry at PiS, stuck with the idea of one list, without considering the problems that came with it. And now anyone who doesn’t fit the narrative is treated in a way only Twitter can
– he said. He also referred to the recent attack by PO politicians on Szymon Hołownia for voting against the law change on the Supreme Court.
If a response to dissent is supposed to look like this, then it may not make sense in unity. Why join one party or one coalition when the response to a difference of opinion has to look like this. This channel into which the opposition has entered by pursuing a single list is absurd
he said.
