European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the 10th package of EU sanctions against Russia for aggression against Ukraine will include restrictions on trade and technology exports worth €11 billion.
We are weakening Russia’s ability to maintain its war machine. Our 10th sanctions package includes trade bans and controls on technology exports worth €11 billion
– she said.
This package was announced by von der Leyen in early January, but has still not been adopted.
Sanctions against Iran
The president of the European Commission also said that Russia is deploying hundreds of Iranian drones on the battlefields in Ukraine.
These Iranian drones are killing Ukrainian citizens – this is cruel! Therefore, for the first time, we also propose to impose sanctions on Iranian entities, including those associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It is our duty to sanction them
she pointed out.
“The war has returned to Europe
Von der Leyen also recalled the approaching anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine.
Almost a year ago, on the night of February 24, Russia attacked Ukraine and the war returned to Europe. That evening our thoughts and prayers were with our Ukrainian friends. Full of excitement we followed the news from Donbass and Kiev. Will they be able to withstand the onslaught of the Russian invaders? Today we know that it is. A year later, Putin’s treacherous plans continue to be thwarted by the brave Ukrainian people
– she said.
A year later, this parliament welcomed the President of Ukraine – Volodymyr Zelensky – as the true hero that he is. A year later, Putin’s imperialist fantasies have become a grim reality – while Ukraine’s dreams are stronger than ever. In the early morning of February 24, when Russian tanks entered Ukraine, the entire continent held its breath. Some predicted that Ukraine would collapse within days. But instead, the legendary courage of the Ukrainian people shocked the world
Ursula von der Leyen stressed.
