Tension at the Belarus-Poland border near Dubicze Cerkiewne
Near Dubicze Cerkiewne in Podlaskie province, migrants on the Belarusian side gathered behind a steel border barrier and directed stones and branches at Polish border services. The Border Guard reported that no one was harmed in the incident, and noted that such events had not occurred for some time. A brief clip of the Monday episode was shared by the border guard on social media and on the Podlaskie regional border guard website.
Rising strain on the eastern frontier
A group of men on the Belarusian side engaged with Polish patrols, expressing anger over the protection of the border. They hurled stones and branches toward the Polish officers while gaining access to the border area with Belarus through the approval of Belarusian authorities. The border guard described the scene as taking place in a zone near the boundary, with the Belarusian services permitting foreign nationals to enter a specially protected area. The incident was reported on X by the border guard service.
The Podlaski Border Guard Unit confirmed the incident occurred around 07:00 on Monday in the stretch near the Belarusian border, noting that the Dubicze Cerkiewne post is responsible for this sector. No injuries were reported.
The migrants were present in a designated border zone thanks to ongoing involvement by Belarusian authorities in illegal crossings. Belarusian soldiers allowed entry to the zone, which is protected by the system commonly referenced in Polish reporting, as noted by the Border Guard.
Over the past day, there were 89 attempted illegal border crossings from Belarus into Poland. Twelve of the individuals approached the steel barrier but retreated upon encountering Polish patrols. Nine migrants managed to cross the Istoczanka River into Poland.
Since the start of March, the Border Guard has logged more than 2,100 attempts to cross the border illegally from Belarus into Poland. In February, roughly 1,500 attempts were recorded, with more than 1,400 noted in January.
