Never has an American president visited Poland twice a year; Joe Biden is impressed with Poland’s handling of refugees from Ukraine. The whole world is looking at Poland today, which is why the US leader is going here, US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said on Sunday.
On Friday, the White House announced a visit to Poland scheduled for February 20-22. During the visit, the US leader will meet with President Andrzej Duda, meet with Bucharest Nine leaders and deliver a speech ahead of the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
US Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski emphasized on Sunday that Biden was also in Poland last March.
Never has the President of the United States visited Poland twice in one year. This is also a historic moment and a very clear signal of the importance of relations between Poland and the United States
– noted Brzezinski in Polsat News.
The US ambassador noted that “the whole world is now looking at Poland and that is why President Biden is coming here.” As he said, the US president is “impressed with Poland’s reception of refugees from Ukraine”.
The ambassador said President Biden will come to Poland on February 20 “in the second half of the day.” As he added, it will be “a visit to only one country,” which he says “shows how important Polish-American relations are right before the anniversary of this terrible war in Ukraine, which the whole world is watching today. “
Brzezinski stressed that during his visit to our country, the US leader will meet with President Andrzej Duda to discuss bilateral relations, efforts to support Ukraine and strengthen NATO; Biden will also deliver a speech to mark the year that has passed since, as he said, “Russia’s unprovoked brutal attack on Ukraine.”
“The United States will continue to stand in solidarity with Ukraine.”
He will talk about how the United States is providing continued support to Ukraine in Europe and around the world. After all, Ukraine defends freedom and democracy. The United States will remain in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary
said Brzezinski.
The ambassador noted that during the visit, Biden will meet with B9 leaders and “affirm the unwavering support of the United States for the security of this Alliance, i.e. NATO.”
When asked if a possible meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or a visit to Rzeszów is planned, Brzezinski replied that he would reveal more details “as soon as possible”.
Asked for more details about the US president’s planned speech in our country, Brzezinski stressed that it is currently being prepared. As he noted, the baselines should “concern both the security of Ukraine and the security of the entire region.”
The president will certainly talk about how the entire Alliance can support and help maintain security in this region and what Poland can do. I think this will be such a fundamental topic
– he said.
But we certainly need to look at it in a broader historical context as well. (…) For hundreds of years, Americans and Poles fought each other for their freedom. (…) For the first time in history, America and Poland have the same freedom, freedom. When we have this, we should think about what we can do together so that others regain their freedom and win. Especially at this moment, of course, I am talking about Ukraine
he noticed.
He also stressed that a very important message would be “saying thank you to Polish society, because Poles, Polish women, have done something extraordinary, no one expected it, it was such a rapid mobilization of society.”
And of course we also have to help you a little in carrying this very heavy burden
– added.
Ambassador Brzezinski stressed that “Polish society will have the opportunity to see him [prezydenta Bidena – przyp. red.] in person at a large gathering.
The ambassador also spoke about the details of the US leader’s visit. Biden is expected to arrive on Feb. 20 “in the latter part of the day.” According to Brzezinski, “The Polish public will have the opportunity to see him in person at a large gathering.”
I know it will be something special
he noticed.
