We help Ukraine, because the future of our eastern neighbors depends on what our future will look like; we do more than others because we have more to gain and more to lose than others, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized.
In the next episode of his podcast published on Saturday, the head of government spoke about the extraordinary summit of the European Council, which was attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“A strong signal of unity with Ukraine”
The prime minister pointed out that the EU had sent a “strong signal of unity with Ukraine” in recent days, but – as he said – this was only the beginning of the road. He stressed that Poland is building a coalition for more military support to Ukraine, which will allow it to defend itself, but also to recapture the occupied territories.
Morawiecki recalled that Ukraine was granted candidate country status for EU membership a few months ago.
It’s a great success, but we can’t stop halfway. Ukraine is paying a huge blood price today for trying to break out from under Russia’s boot. The events on Maidan in Kyiv set her on her way to the EU, and the vision of joining the EU motivates Ukrainians to stay on this extremely difficult and dangerous path
said the prime minister.
He pointed out that Poland is helping Ukraine, because the future of our eastern neighbors depends on what our future will look like.
We do more than others because we have more to gain and more to lose than others
– added.
The West must not fall asleep
The prime minister stressed that Ukraine would not defeat Russia without the solidarity of the West, including sanctions, financial, humanitarian and military aid.
It will not be easy to maintain the enthusiasm of recent days in European salons, but the most important thing is that we maintain European unity and determination in supporting the defenders of Ukraine. We have awakened the West, now we cannot let it slumber
– added.
