The ranks of the Polish army are growing in number; our goal is an army of at least 300,000, but also as many people as possible who will be trained, able to handle weapons and behave in a crisis situation – said the deputy prime minister, head of the Ministry of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak in Elbląg on Saturday.
Military oath
On Saturday, a military oath was taken in Elbląg for soldiers of voluntary service who are undergoing training at: the 20th Bartoszyce Mechanized Brigade, the 1st Artillery Brigade, the 16th Żuławy Logistic Regiment and the 9th Olsztyn Command Battalion.
The Polish army is getting stronger. The ranks of the Polish army are growing in number. Today more than 2.5 thousand soldiers of voluntary, compulsory military service took the military oath
– said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He added that 364 soldiers took the oath in Elbląg alone and they all have one goal: the desire to serve the fatherland. The head of the Ministry of National Defense found that 75 percent of them become professional soldiers and 25 percent. decided to become a reserve soldier, which – as he said – is a great advantage for the state, because these people are trained and aware of the tasks imposed on them by their homeland.
He pointed out that soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces also take the oath on Saturdays and that classes in the series “Train with the Army” are held in seven garrisons across Poland.
This is the whole offer we made for you. This is an offer that builds the strength of the Polish army. It’s worth taking advantage of this
Blaszczak said.
A record number of soldiers took part in the service
He also stressed that 13,742 military enlisted last year.
This is a record amount in recent years. This is the largest number since the abolition of compulsory military service, universal service
– said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He added that the Defense Department has prepared 25,000 places in voluntary compulsory military service this year, but assured that it will be increased if necessary.
Our goal is to deter the aggressor and build a strong Polish army. And that’s what happens every year
Blaszczak said.
Reinforcement of the Polish army
He stressed that the authorities are well aware of the risks.
We know there is war on our border. To effectively prevent the spillover of this war, it is necessary to build a strong Polish army. And we do that consistently. Our goal is a Polish army of at least 300,000, but also as many people as possible who are trained, able to use weapons and behave in a crisis situation. This immunity, which we consistently build up, actually deters the aggressor
– said the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He added that since the PiS takeover in 2015, new military units have been created, mainly in the eastern part of the country, “more tactical units, divisions” are being built.
We equip the Polish army with modern weapons that prove themselves on the battlefield in the hands of brave Ukrainian soldiers. This effective defense of Ukraine is possible thanks to the possession of such weapons
said the minister.
Referring to the US State Department’s permission to sell nearly 500 HIMARS launchers to Poland, he stated that this permission was given because Poland is a trusted ally.
Because the Polish authorities are really building the strength of the Polish army, which is very firmly entrenched in the North Atlantic Alliance, in relations with the United States. We are building interoperability between the Polish army and the allied forces
– added the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
He stated that the authorities take “a basic, fundamental duty – the duty to ensure the security of our homeland” very seriously.
