We passed the test at the Polish-Belarusian border, we earned the respect of our allies, President Andrzej Duda said on Friday. He added that Poland was obliged to defend the EU border during the migration crisis that started in 2021.
We showed determination when – I am convinced – a test was carried out on our eastern border, expelling migrants, mainly from the Middle East, who arrived in Belarus by plane. They were pushed to our border
– said the president during a meeting with the inhabitants of Brzeziny and the Brzeziny poviat (Łódź Voivodeship).
As he added, that’s why “our border guards were insulted, our soldiers were insulted, people who sacrificed themselves to defend the border of the Republic of Poland, the border of the European Union, were insulted.”
There were and are organizations in Poland, there are people who call themselves Euro enthusiasts every day, but they dared to insult people who defended the EU border
President Duda emphasized.
He said the officers “could count on the support of the absolute majority of Polish society”.
Thanks to the fact that they felt that society is behind them, that those who attack them are absolute exceptions and outcasts in Polish society, perhaps this is why they survived
he said.
The president added that Poland had a duty to defend the EU border and that this was “observed with attention in Brussels, as a question mark whether we are living up to our European obligations”.
We showed – not to the Belarusians, we showed the Russians, we showed Putin that we defend our country and our border
noted Duda.
As he said, he does not believe that “the Belarusian regime single-handedly made the decision to attack our border”.
I am convinced that Moscow conducted a test on one of the countries and decided to do it on us. Why? Because this border is close to the Suwałki Isthmus, this border is close to the Baltic States, this border is close to a place that today is a strategic point on the map of the North Atlantic Alliance
he pointed it out.
We passed this test. We have shown that we can do it. We have also earned the respect of our allies
– assessed President Duda.
“I want us to be able to defend ourselves as well as possible”
I want us to be able to defend ourselves as much as possible so that we can protect Poles not only for now, but also for generations to come, President Andrzej Duda said Friday during a meeting with the residents of Brzeziny in Łódź Voivodeship.
The president stressed that the presence of NATO troops means we can “sleep safely” in Poland.
He added that the stationing of air forces from other NATO countries at Polish airports is particularly valuable.
American, Dutch and other NATO aircraft patrol our airspace and guard our airspace
said the chairman.
However, according to him, the key to Poland’s military security is the constant development of our own potential, “so that we can defend ourselves, so that we can protect the Poles not only for now, but also for future generations.”
He addressed the guests of the meeting and thanked for the support received by the armed forces’ development programs.
This is a big task for the future in terms of defense spending and policy making
he noticed.
President Duda said Poland’s security is one of the most important elements of his presidency. He added that it is also his job to strengthen Poland’s image in the world.
I will try to raise Poland’s prestige as high as possible so that we are taken into account. They don’t need to like us, I don’t need sympathy. Respect is enough and respect will follow. This is thanks to the Poles for the years of slavery, when it was impossible to see the world, for the years when we earned many times less than in Western Europe and the United States. I believe that the Republic will continue to develop
noted the chairman.
