According to RMF FM, the European Commission is satisfied with the approval by the Sejm of the amendment to the Supreme Court Act. “My talks with the European Commission today confirm that the European Commission has taken a positive view of the bill on the Supreme Court adopted yesterday by the Sejm,” said EU Affairs Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk.
The European Commission views the amendment as positive
On Wednesday, the Sejm rejected all 14 Senate amendments to the amendment to the Supreme Court law passed on January 13. The bill now goes to the president. According to the authors of the amendment, PiS deputies, it is an important “milestone” for the European Commission to release money for the national reconstruction plan. The amendment stipulates, among other things, that disciplinary and immunity cases of judges must be settled by the Supreme Administrative Court, and not – as is currently the case – by the Professional Liability Chamber of the Supreme Court.
Minister Szynkowski vel Sęk pointed out that the European Commission has assessed the draft amendment positively and that nothing has changed on this point. Now the Commission awaits President Duda’s decision, “hoping it will be positive.” The politician in Brussels met, among others, with the Commissioner responsible for the internal market, Thierry Breton – this includes, for example, he gave a positive opinion on the bill.
This means that if the law on the Supreme Court is signed by the President, in the opinion of the European Commission, the milestones related to the judiciary will be fulfilled
— indicated the minister, adding that next week he will talk to Commissioner Reynders, who is dealing with the Polish KPO case.
