Yesterday a conference was held in the Senate between the chairman of the Poland 2050 Movement, Szymon Hołownia, and the president of PSL, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The journalists who expected both leaders to announce a joint start of the parliamentary elections were met with great disappointment.
Only the appointment of a team of experts was announced, which would draw up a list of “common problems to be addressed by the future government within the first 100 days”, but also a list of the problems to be solved within 4 years. that is, the entire reign.
The consequence of drawing up such a common list of problems is that a decision will be made in the future about “in which electoral formula” both parties will go to the elections, although the amount of “warm words” that both leaders did not spare yesterday , proves that there is a great desire to run together.
“List” by Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz
The list of common problems is likely to be drawn up without any special difficulty, especially since the main one, which has been modified in all cases by the entire opposition for several years, namely “PiS’s removal from power”, has brought the two sides very close.
The second is to settle scores, although Hołownia and Kosiniak-Kamysz do not talk about “imprisoning PiS members” like Tusk and other leading politicians of the PO, but they want to hold accountable those currently in power.
The third is probably the introduction of the rule of law in Poland, but if you ask the representatives of both groups what kind of action should be taken in this matter, they say about the need to respect the constitution, even the leader of a of these groups, Szymon Hołownia, some time ago, in a video that he himself “posted” on the network, even “mourned” its non-compliance.
What about the differences?
Although the list of common problems can be quickly drawn up, it is not known what the two groups will do with the fundamental differences that separate them, and there are many of them, and they belong to a “heavy” category.
After all, Poland 2050 is meant to be a “lifeboat” for PO members, which clearly began to weaken after Tusk’s departure to EU policy, especially when it was led by its president Borys Budka.
It is therefore a party of a liberal nature, which is reflected in the composition of advisers that Szymon Hołownia, and in fact his main adviser Michał Kobosko, decided to invite to cooperate.
PSL is, in theory at least, an anti-liberal party that, after bad experiences of joint governance with the PO, is unlikely to be ready to support the liberal ideas of Poland 2050 again.
Poland 2050 wants the euro
Hołownia and its economic advisers long ago announced the need for Poland to join the Eurozone, although there is increasing hard data that if we did, the pace of our country’s development, and consequently its catching up with the most developed countries in Western Europe would clearly decrease (PSL is against joining the Eurozone).
Recently, the Ministry of State Assets has published hard data over a period of 13 years, which clearly show that Slovakia, which is in the Eurozone, is clearly losing, while Poland has clearly better macroeconomic fundamentals (GDP growth, unemployment, public debt, standard of living compared to the EU average), although the situation at the time of accession to the EU was quite the opposite in this regard.
Also impressive is the data showing that if we were to develop like Slovakia after the country’s entry into the Eurozone (and this is most likely due to the similarities of the economies described above), our GDP in 2021 would reach almost $450 billion , ie almost 1/3, lower than it actually is.
Fundamental differences
There are also major differences between the two groups, there are also issues related to the development and modernization of the Polish army, PSL supports the activities of the Law and Justice government in this regard, the Hołownia group, whose main adviser general Mirosława Różański is, not only contests these changes, but announces their “reversal” when they come to power.
Hołownia is in favor of partnerships and funding of the in vitro method from budgetary resources. PSL, after the disastrous experience of participating in the European coalition (called the Rainbow Coalition) in the elections to the European Parliament, is absolutely against such solutions.
There are many more of these differences, and of a fundamental nature, and in the election campaign they will have to be interpreted “densely”, meaning that electoral support is more likely to be much lower than the sum of the current polls of both groups.
