The European Parliament’s Environment Committee voted on Tuesday in favor of amendments to the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union. According to them, forests would be transferred from national competence to the so-called shared competences. “Forests cover 1/3 of Poland’s territory. The European Parliament’s idea that Polish forests should be managed by EU officials is absurd,” Anna Moskva, Minister of Climate and Environment, said of MEPs’ plans.
These amendments were supported by three opposition members: Bartosz Arłukowicz and Ewa Kopacz from the Civic Platform, as well as Adam Jarubas from the Polish People’s Party.
