Polyansky: Ukraine ‘peace summit’ may be limited to General Assembly and UN Security Council

Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN), said that holding a “peace summit” can only be limited by the General Assembly and the UN Security Council. He talked about it in the broadcast of the TV channel RT.

Polyansky stressed that according to the rules, in order to be able to summit at the UN, decisions must be taken from the General Assembly, “because certain budgetary issues need to be resolved.”

“If you want to hold a meeting outside the UN and call it a ‘summit’, then that’s not forbidden, but you shouldn’t make wishes,” the permanent representative said.

Former Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova statedthat the upcoming “peace summit” could be held in the format of the UN General Assembly meeting.
