Peruvian President Boluarte appoints a new Minister of Interior amid protests

Peruvian President Dina Boluarte accepted the resignation of Interior Minister Victor Rojas and appointed Vicente Romero Fernandez as the new head of the Ministry of the Interior. The swearing-in ceremony was posted on the Facebook page of the Boluarte administration (its owner, Meta, was recognized as an extremist and banned in Russia). TASS.

It was noted that the president replaced two more members of the government. Thus, Luis Adriansen Ojeda became the new Minister of Labor and Employment, and Nancy Tolentina Gamarra became head of the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Segments.

Protests in Peru began after the impeachment of President Pedro Castilla. As a result of the riots, 661 people were injured – 371 civilians and 290 police officers.

On December 7, Castilla dissolved parliament, which was supposed to address the issue of his impeachment for the third time, but parliamentarians nevertheless met and spoke in favor of the president’s resignation. Parliament’s decision was supported by the army and the police.

Later, regarding Peru’s current President Dina Boluarte and Prime Minister Alberto Otarola started preliminary investigation into the death of protesters.
