Confidential documents dating back to the time the politician was vice president were found in the Penn Biden Center think tank building in Washington DC. GIS News with reference to sources.
The channel dropped the note, “According to sources, about 10 documents came from Vice President Biden’s central office.”
The documents were kept in the same box as the other unclassified papers. He was found by Biden’s confidants in early November. The find was immediately reported to the National Archives, and the documents were later transferred there.
CBS emphasizes that the newspapers “are not the subject of investigation or investigation” and that Biden himself initiated their transfer. But US Attorney General Merrick Garland has ordered an investigation into how the classified documents got to the Penn Biden Center. The FBI was also involved in the investigation. The review will be the first step for the Attorney General to decide whether further investigation and the possible appointment of private counsel are necessary.
The channel’s sources were unable to divulge the contents of the documents and also refused to talk about their level of secrecy, stating that they did not only contain information about nuclear weapons.
According to US law, all documents of the president and vice president must be immediately transferred to the National Archives, special protocols have been developed for the protection of confidential information.
The Penn Biden Center is a think tank affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and named after the current president, about a mile from the White House in Washington DC.
Biden served as vice president from January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017.
Search in Mar-a-Lago
In August 2022, the FBI raided former US President Donald Trump’s mansion in Mar-a-Lago, as a result of which hundreds of documents marked “confidential” were found. Among other things, they contained data on the nuclear capabilities of the United States and on correspondence between Trump and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
The Trump investigation is now overseen by newly appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith.
In September, President Biden commented on the finds from his predecessor’s home in 60 Minutes: “How could this be? How can you be so irresponsible?”
“And that’s just – completely irresponsible,” the politician concluded.
Learning the news about the documents found at the Penn Biden Center today, Trump decided to respond to the criticism of his opponent. He also urged the FBI to search the homes of the current president and the White House.
“When will the FBI search most of Joe Biden’s homes, perhaps even the White House?” — Wrote Trump pointed out that the discovered documents on his social network Truth Social have not yet been declassified.
As CBS points out, sometimes politicians withhold confidential information after leaving the civil service, and this does not necessarily entail criminal prosecution. For example, the FBI had previously found that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton kept confidential material on its private mail server for several years after leaving the State Department in 2013. Investigators determined that he did this out of negligence and without any malicious intent.
