Local government officials write to the president about KPO
In several cities, local government officials of the “Yes for Poland” movement organized press conferences, at which they announced that they had written a letter to President Andrzej Duda asking for “active participation in negotiations” on KPO. It was signed by 600 local government officials from across the country. The letter also included a list of 1,000 investments to be made with KPO funds. kindergartens and nurseries, retrofitting hospitals or replacing the public transport fleet with low-emission ones.
Izabelin Municipality Mayor Dorota Zmarzlak admitted that local government officials count on President Duda’s support because he showed that “he can intervene in matters that are important for Poland, for the local government, as was the case with Lex Czarnek.”
The leader of the movement, Sopot President Jacek Karnowski, admitted that local government officials are also seeking a face-to-face meeting with Andrzej Duda on the matter.
You can sit at a round table and come up with solutions
– said Karnowski at a conference in Warsaw, who compared KPO money to the 1947 Marshall Plan. The mayor of Wojkowice, Tomasz Szczerba, spoke in a similar tone at the conference in Katowice.
The Polish government has an ATM that you have to approach and enter a PIN. This pin code is European values. And what is the Polish government doing? He tries to hook the rope and pull the ATM out of the wall. As local government officials, we call for European values to be established
Karnowski said.
Trzaskowski attacks the government
Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski stressed that “immediate money from KPO is needed”.
We look with great concern at what is happening, the skirmishes in government, the lack of a clear position on this money. (…) We call on the President to take an active part in these negotiations, because this money is needed in Poland. And delays could mean that this money will not be used, it would be a tragedy for Poland. The entire European Union is developing, investing billions in development, and Poland is deprived of this money by the actions of the PiS government
said Trzaskowski.
Investment list
Local government officials emphasized that the investments prepared for implementation from the KPO funds are intended to serve local communities.
In our voivodeship, PLN 15 billion has been proposed to finance the revitalization of post-industrial areas, their development and the creation of business opportunities there. We also have plans to supplement investments in rolling stock as the money from KPO may complement the regional program
– said the deputy marshal of the province in Katowice. Silesian Anna Jedynak.
Plans in Wojkowice include: construction of a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 20 megawatts, a similar investment has been prepared from the formal and legal side in Lądek Zdrój. The mayor of Lądek Zdrój, Roman Kaczmarczyk, said at a briefing in Warsaw that his local government wants to transfer the energy produced to local companies in order to become energy independent.
Local government officials stressed that some cities used loans to fund investments that should be funded from the KPO. This is the case, eg in Olsztyn.
It is inconceivable to me and to the people of Olsztyn that we will all pay for these investments in the end, without the participation of EU funds that are intended for us, that have been negotiated and that are now held in Brussels, because we do not meet the basic conditions – the milestone of the rule of law
– said the mayor of Olsztyn, Piotr Grzymowicz. In this city, the KPO will include, among others: utilities in the industrial park, construction of a nursery adapted for disabled children on Antonowicza Street, thermal modernization of educational institutions, development of hydrogen technology for the needs of MPK, adaptation of a municipal hospital. All projects are worth about PLN 709 million.
Karnowski admitted that local government officials had no appointment for a possible meeting with President Duda for the time being.
