Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that Finland expects to wait until the North Atlantic Alliance countries approve Sweden’s application to join the alliance. These release reports Aftonbladet refers to the minister.
Haavisto outlined Helsinki’s position before the conference began, entitled “People and Defense”.
“Finland is not trying to join NATO as soon as possible, so we can expect Sweden to get the appropriate signal,” Haavisto said.
As the Foreign Minister added, Finland and Sweden will jointly complete the NATO accession process.
Now only 28 out of 30 NATO members approved application from two countries Turkey and Hungary did not approve the initiative.
Last spring, Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO.
