The supposedly democratic senate, commanded by Marshal Tomasz Grodzki, suspected of bribery by the prosecutor’s office, has deliberately sabotaged the Polish judiciary. The majority of the Senate, calling itself, as a classic self-proclaimer, “Democratic,” chose 30 jurors for the Supreme Court. Many of them were reported by the Committee for the Defense of Democracies.
Some of them have extensive experience and achievements of online haters targeting PiS and Catholic priests. They are known for comparing PiS politicians to Nazis, attacking priests, spreading the slogans “Wypier…” and “Jeb.. PiS”. They openly support the leaders of Platforma Obywatelska and Poland 2050. It also turned out that many were PO activists and even participated in elections from the party’s lists.
The election act in the Senate took place last October. The KOD-backed “Chosen” would formally begin the role of Supreme Court jurors on January 1 this year and serve for four years. Fortunately, the Senate’s attempt to introduce its pets, which would no doubt contribute to deepening the degeneration of the Polish judiciary, was blocked by the first president of the Supreme Court, Małgorzata Manowska. The precondition for the commencement of the office of Supreme Court Justice is the acceptance by the first President of the oath of office chosen by the Senate. And Prof. Małgorzata Manowska refused this last nomination against such candidates.
Whether Małgorzata Manowska will be able to give a positive turn to this shocking case will become apparent in the coming weeks. Yesterday, the first president of the Supreme Court sent a letter to Senate Marshal Tomasz Grodzki calling for a second vote on the resolution on the selection of lay judges. The Senate majority opinion that independents were elected was fiction. Małgorzata Manowska decided that the election was illegitimate (“the resolution is illegitimate”), because those elected did not meet the fundamental legal requirement of “impeccable character”.
Among the many conditions set by the law, which paves the way to becoming a Supreme Court judge, in addition to “impeccable character”, there is also “no affiliation with any political party”.
The Democratic part of the Senate, headed by Marshal Tomasz Grodzki, cynically pointed to their favorites from KOD and laughed at the spirit of this bill.
