UK Foreign Office chief says Christmas truce will not help restore peace in Ukraine

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said that the Christmas truce declared by Russia would not help to establish peace in Ukraine. He wrote this on his Twitter.

“A 36-hour break from Russian attacks will in no way help bring the prospect of peace closer,” the minister said.

Former Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu will declare a ceasefire along the entire line of contact from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7.

The Kremlin also urged the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and give citizens the opportunity to attend Christmas services, as “many citizens of Orthodoxy live in conflict zones”.
