What the opposition thought impossible has become reality. Germany will hand over Patriot launchers to Ukraine
he wrote on Twitter Mariusz Blaszczak.
When I proposed such a solution, the “military experts” of the PO, as usual, claimed that “it is impossible”. I care about Poland’s security, and this decision increases it
– noted the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
Conversation between the President of the US and the Chancellor of Germany
On Thursday, following a phone call between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the US and German governments announced that the US would supply Ukraine with Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and Germany with Marder infantry fighting vehicles and a battery of the Patriot air defense system. The joint statement did not specify the number of vehicles; according to the media, there are about 50 Bradleys and a maximum of 40 Marders.
On 20 November, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht offered to support Poland with Patriot systems and Eurofighter fighters from the Bundeswehr, which would strengthen the protection of Polish airspace. The proposal was related to the November 15 event when a rocket fell on Polish territory near the Polish-Ukrainian border in Przewodów during Russian rocket fire on Ukraine, killing two people. According to Polish authorities, it was most likely an accident caused by the collapse of a Ukrainian air defense missile.
On November 21, Deputy Prime Minister Błaszczak said on Twitter that he was satisfied with the proposal of the German Defense Minister. He announced that he would propose placing the system on the border with Ukraine. Two days later he announced that he had asked the German side to transfer the batteries proposed to Poland to Ukraine. The next day, the German Defense Minister stated that the Patriots proposed to Poland are part of NATO’s integrated air defense, which means that they will be deployed in Alliance territory.
In early December, Błaszczak reported that the German side agreed that the Bundeswehr’s Patriot systems would be connected to the Polish command system.
In December, during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington, the US announced the transfer of the Patriot kit to Ukraine.
Germany’s decision was also commented on by PiS deputy spokeswoman Urszula Rusecka.
The initiative so strongly supported by the PiS government is taking shape. An initiative that played with national security for Tusk and the opposition. Bow to Minister M. Błaszczak, Prime Minister M. Morawiecki and President J. Kaczyński
