Given the Russian aggression against Ukraine, which also poses a direct threat to our state (including Moscow’s defeat in this clash), should more decisive measures be taken and conscription restored? This question is constantly recurring in our debate and is not surprising. The issues of army strength, civilian education and adequate personnel reserves are crucial to our future today.
However, according to the laboratory study Social changesby order of the portal wPolityce.plthe idea of reintroducing conscription is not very popular with Poles.
They were for the reintroduction of compulsory basic military service 34 percent examined.
He was of the opposite opinion 43 percent respondents.
23 percent no opinion on this.
The reintroduction of conscription enjoys strong sympathy among nearly half of United Right supporters (49 percent support). Opponents prevail among Civic Coalition voters (51 percent), but also in this group every third the respondent would like to return to military service.
When asked what type of conscription they most support, respondents pointed to voluntary conscription – for volunteers only; supports this concept 56 percent examined.
Compulsory and universal conscription enjoys support 19 percent examined.
13 percent opted for conscription, but not for everyone.
12 percent is contrary to the principle of conscription in the army.
Today, Poland is not faced with the need to reintroduce forced conscription, but it is not impossible that we end up in a situation in which there is no other movement. That is why it is worth discussing this. The old world, where many thought we were out of danger of war, is now a thing of the past.
