For President Andrzej Duda, all pro-turnout activities are absolutely justified; any facilitation of access to polling stations is a step in the right direction, KPRP head Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych told PAP when asked about the draft amendments to the electoral law by PiS deputies.

Last Thursday, PiS submitted a draft amendment to the electoral law to the Sejm. It assumes, among other things, better access to polling places for residents of small towns, free transportation for voters in municipalities without public transportation, as well as changes to the method of determining voting results by members of district committees. According to the authors of the project, these solutions are intended to increase turnout in elections on the territory of the Republic of Poland.
PAP asked the head of the President’s Chancellery, Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, how the project is assessed by the President.
Any pro-turnout move is a good move. Any facilitation of access to polling places is a step in the right direction
said the minister.
At the same time, she stressed that the bill had only just been submitted to the Sejm. As she indicated, the president will keep a close eye on parliamentary work and await the final form.
But, as I said, all pro-turnout activities that facilitate direct participation in the act of democracy, which is voting, are absolutely justified for Mr. President
said Ignaczak-Bandych.
“Restricting this right is a kind of exclusion.”
Asked about emerging critical views on the project, according to which it is an attempt to mobilize PiS-friendly residents of small towns, the minister replied: “She is aware of such statements by opposition representatives that were insulting to residents of smaller cities with a traditional value system in which insults were uttered and their participation in elections downgraded”.
After all, this is not a project that increases the number of constituencies in areas where PiS wins, but in all of Poland. So the fact that people will be able to participate in the act of democracy, in democratic elections, participate directly, which they are entitled to, should be viewed positively. Restricting this right is a kind of exclusion
– she said.
