I don’t think there are mass layoffs here. You will probably have to reorganize work a bit and when it comes to work teachers need to be calm, we will do everything we can to make sure everyone is well protected
– said Bochenk when asked about the words of the head of the Ministry of National Education and Science that “in the perspective of two or three years, 100 percent.” there will be layoffs of teachers “especially in secondary schools”.
The PiS spokesperson added that due to the demographic decline, nearly 500,000 people will leave the system. children.
As a result, there will probably be less work for teachers. However, I don’t think there are mass layoffs here
he said.
He notes that many teachers work overtime and often have several full-time jobs due to staff shortages.
Therefore, there is probably also some room for maneuver here to deal with this demographic decline and get out of this situation, so that the interest of teachers is also secured in one way or another
he stressed.
During a press conference at PiS headquarters in Krakow, Rafał Bochenek also admitted that PiS is considering the return of early retirement for teachers.
When it comes to retirement age, we really take that into account. This will certainly be discussed with the unions. Let me remind you that the right to an earlier retirement age has been taken away from teachers by Donald Tusk, today we, as the PiS government, will lean to return to this solution
– he said.
Unions want to restore early retirement rights for all teachers after 30 years of work, of which at least 20 years “at the blackboard”, regardless of age. It was abolished as a result of the pension reform introduced in 1999 by the Solidarity Electoral Action government; expired at the end of 2008.
Minister Czarnek’s announcements
Education and Science Minister Przemysław Czarnek was asked in an interview with Radio Zet on Thursday morning whether teachers will be fired next year.
No, not yet next year, but 100 percent with a view to two or three years. yes, especially in high schools. Principals of secondary schools, such as the one in Prudnik, know this and do not employ extra teachers. They prefer to give teachers overtime because then they don’t have to be fired later
said the minister. Speaking about the size of the layoffs, he said, “It is about 100,000. teachers out of 700,000 in a 2-3 year perspective.” He added that by 2023 there will be no need to make these layoffs.
Czarnek added that “a strong demographic decline is underway, especially in secondary schools.” He notes that this will result in too many teachers there and appropriate solutions must be prepared to allow a certain group of teachers to retire. When asked if there will be a return to early retirement for teachers, he said: “This is a solution that absolutely needs to be put back on the agenda and discussed.”
This is a solution that we will certainly discuss in January and the following months, so that – perhaps – we will pass a relevant law in the first half of next year with some prospect of specific solutions coming into force
said the Minister of Education.
