The Florida District Court for the Southern District has refused to drop the charges against Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab, despite diplomatic immunity. DEA News.

“In the eyes of the government, Mr. Saab was not someone with diplomatic status. Only the president (USA) has the right to determine which governments are legitimate in the eyes of the United States and which are not. In court documents, it is clear that the United States does not recognize that the Maduro regime represents Venezuela’s official government.

Alex Saab is accused of creating a “wide network of corruption” that allegedly represents Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s interests in the United States. Saab was detained in Cape Verde in 2020 after being placed on the US sanctions list and extradited to the US.
