8 December Iranian authorities reported about the first execution of a protester in the country. Mohsen Shekari was found guilty of assaulting a security guard and blocking a street in Tehran. According to investigators, the man attacked a law enforcement officer with a machete and injured him.

According to Amnesty International, at least 28 people arrested for participating in demonstrations could be executed.

Mass riots and protests have continued in Iran since mid-September over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after being detained by a deputy police officer. Residents of the country blamed the government for Mahsa’s death.
