This is a good direction for the Polish parliament to pass a resolution on the recognition of the Russian Federation as a state supporting terrorism. Gestures count in international politics and can be a possible starting point for further action, said the head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, Radosław Fogiel (PiS).
Two draft resolutions tabled by MPs from PiS and the left on recognizing the Russian Federation as a state supporting terrorism were submitted to the Sejm, which were submitted to the Foreign Affairs Committee for first reading.
“Sponsorship” or “support”?
As the chairman of the committee, Radosław Fogiel, told PAP, the deputies will deal with it at the meeting of the foreign affairs committee on Wednesday, and one of the aspects they will address is to clarify whether they should use the word “sponsorship”. or it is better to use the word “supportive”.
Initially on Wednesday. A meeting of the foreign affairs committee is scheduled to discuss the matter on the 15th
he inquired.
The chairman of the committee indicates that he will propose an agreement to develop a joint motion for a resolution.
The European Parliament passed a similar resolution at the initiative of European Conservatives and Reformists and Members of the European Parliament for Law and Justice
he remembered.
I think this is a good direction for the Polish parliament to follow suit, and I would like other national parliaments to follow suit
Fogel emphasized.
When asked about the significance of the resolution passed by the Sejm, the committee chairman judged it to be a political gesture, similar to the resolution of the European Parliament.
But such gestures also count in international politics, and if they reach a certain critical point – they can already have an influence and are of such importance that they can be used as an element of pressure and a possible starting point for further action, already within the framework of international law
– added.
The project of the left recalled the illegal aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The Russian state and its subordinate structures have committed acts of terrorism against various elements of the civilian infrastructure, including residential areas, schools, hospitals, railway stations, theaters and water and electricity networks
– we read in the project.
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland recognizes the Russian Federation as a state supporting terrorism and using terrorist measures
it was written.
The Russian Federation must be isolated in all respects in the international arena
– says the motion for a resolution from the left.
How do the projects differ?
As it was written: “The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls on the Council of Ministers to take action to impose further sanctions on the Russian Federation and all persons supporting the activities of the criminal regime of Vladimir Putin, as well as further support for Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor.”
In the PiS draft, the Sejm “recognizes Russia’s violence against civilians committed in pursuit of political goals such as terrorism and recognizes Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and calls on other like-minded countries to take the same stance.”
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland is adamant that all those directly and indirectly responsible for committing Russian war crimes in Ukraine should be brought to justice. supports all international mechanisms working for this purpose, including cooperation with the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to find the most effective means of identifying and prosecuting perpetrators
– we read in the PiS project.
In addition, as we read in the draft, “The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls on the international community to continue its efforts to maintain support for the defense of Ukraine in the face of violations of the most fundamental principles of international law .”
The main task of democratic states is to show determination in defending the basic principles of the international order and to continue to support Ukraine as long as it is necessary
we are reading.
Last week, the European Parliament passed a resolution recognizing Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. MEPs express their support for Ukraine’s independence. 494 MEPs voted in favor of the resolution, 58 were against and 44 abstained.
