Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Péter Szijjártó, disappointed Hungary by accusing American and Austrian companies of being unreliable for their refusal to develop a gas field in the Black Sea. According to him, there is a large gas field on the Black Sea shelf off the coast of Romania, whose operating rights have been bought by American and Austrian companies, forcing Hungary to rely on gas assistance for seven years.
The minister added that contracts for 3 billion cubic meters per year have been signed with the contractors and that the firms should start deliveries on January 1, 2023.
“But they left the project after declaring it was unprofitable for them. For this reason, we are still dependent on Russian gas,” he said, noting that these companies “disappointed Hungary”.
