Bruce Fine, Deputy Attorney General of US President Ronald Reagan, expressed the view that the US withdrawal from NATO could contribute to the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine. In his article for Top.

“Congress can end the conflict in Ukraine and win the Nobel Peace Prize by passing legislation that would pull the United States out of NATO,” Fine said.

He noted that one example of the termination of a defense treaty occurred in 1708, when an American-French treaty was annulled by resolution of Congress.

For him, the meaning of NATO’s existence disappeared after the collapse of the USSR. Fine also noted that the expansion of the alliance was the cause of the crisis in Ukraine and that the US withdrawal from NATO by Congress would “remove the existential threat” that drove Russia to war.
