The Civic Initiative party has reportedly put forward Moscow region MP Boris Nadezhdin as a candidate in the presidential elections in Russia, according to TASS.

According to the agency, the decision, which was reached at the VII party congress, was adopted unanimously by a closed and secret vote. Sixty delegates participated, with one candidate representing the party in the process.

Earlier, the Congress of the All People’s Union of Russia (ROS) announced its choice to nominate party chairman Sergei Baburin as a candidate for the presidency. The Congress of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation nominated Nikolai Kharitonov. The SRZP Congress expressed support for Vladimir Putin as a presidential candidate.

Ella Pamfilova, the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), noted that the field of potential presidential contenders continued to grow, reaching a count of twenty-nine individuals.

It was previously known that Grigory Yavlinsky, founder of the Yabloko party, would not participate in the March 2024 presidential election in Russia.

These developments reflect the evolving landscape of candidate nominations across Russia’s major parties and coalitions as voters prepare for the upcoming vote. Attribution: TASS reporting on party decisions and official statements from the CEC.
