One of the measures that allows us to measure the level of kindness and sensitivity of a certain community is the value it places on human life. In our country, as in the political and cultural environment, unnatural deaths are relatively rare and the number of willful manslaughter and completed homicides has stabilized at around 300 per year (331 in 2019, 298 in 2020, 290 in 2021…). We’ve had serious success going from more than 5,000 deaths a year in traffic accidents in the 1990s to 1,510 last year.
Other preventable deaths are drownings, suicides (approximately eleven per month), and bullfighting deaths, which are about 350 per year and doubled in the first half of this year compared to the first half of the previous year. to achieve but important: Six people have died so far this year in the Community of Valencia.
In short, there are too many unnecessary, avoidable, and absurd deaths that would necessitate more intense public effort. Things have been done and some successes are exemplary, but a single preventable death is worth the extra effort. This idea should be instilled in society.
