Moscow City Duma Deputy Kirill Shchitov explained why remote electronic voting (DEV) will help attract more voters in the September elections.

“Time is the most valuable resource in a modern metropolis, and services that save it will inevitably succeed. Today, we facilitate access to services by purchasing goods online, ordering taxis, paying bills.

Electronic voting is another useful digital tool. For example, there is no need to waste an empty day going from the booth to the polling station and voting. You can do this in 5 minutes on the mos.ru portal, and if you have internet, you can be anywhere physically,” he said.

The MP added that more and more voters are choosing the DEG.

“I am confident that DEG’s convenience will attract more voters in the upcoming elections. First of all, this concerns the younger generation who were born in the age of the Internet and can no longer imagine their life without it. But the older generation also has a positive attitude towards electronic voting. According to a poll by the sociological group Russian Field, 42.6% of Moscow voters prefer to vote online. The most popular e-voting is for those under 29 (61%), aged 30-44 (59%) in second place, and age 45-59 (46%) in third place”, — said his deputy.

In addition, Shields talked about the advantages of the electronic voter list (ESI).

“Electronic voting is a new level of security and transparency of the electoral process. Thanks to the electronic voter list, errors related to the human factor will be eliminated. The system will find voter data faster than an election board member, not lose some of the lists or confuse the two names.

The possibility of double voting has been eliminated. As soon as a voter receives a ballot, whether paper or electronic, information about it is immediately reflected in the electronic list. At the same time, there is no information on who the voters voted for in the electronic list, it is recorded that only ballot papers are given.

Another important innovation: You will no longer need to pre-register to participate in online voting. On election day, it will be possible to decide whether to vote traditionally at the ballot box or remotely on the mos.ru portal, ”said he.

From 9 to 11 September 2022, elections will be held in Moscow for representative bodies of local self-government. A total of 1,417 municipal deputies will be elected in 313 multi-member constituencies located in 124 districts of Moscow and the Troitsk urban district.
