The results of some studies impressed me a lot. Headlines like “Seven incredible benefits of pomegranate juice for you”, “Why we look at couples less intelligent than us” or “Harvard University finds the keys to gray hair” come before them. The process until I come to the title I am curious about is enough to be clicked on with curiosity. Or what prompts white-coat researchers to gather around a table and decide which questions are interesting enough to invest time, money, and talent into.
“This is how science describes the world’s most boring person.” According to researchers from the British University of Essex, the blandest profile is that of a city clergyman who is devoted to data analysis, enjoys watching television, and lives in a city. The same team of (pseudo) researchers decided that among the sleepiest hobbies are bird watching, smoking or religion. I have what I deserve. I clicked on a surreal title and came across information of the same nature. Mea Culpa. However, why do we dislike boredom so much? A cousin told his dad that he was bored, and his dad nearly slapped him, “No smart person feels like that!” yell. There are words we heard as children that determine the way we exist. If my cousin is not active, he suffers from remorse and therefore lives under constant stress. This parent said, “This is great. Maybe something good will come out of this.” He would definitely take life differently. Today, if a child complains of not knowing what to do, we put a cell phone in front of them or have him signed up for after-school after school. Yawning from boredom creates panic.
in his book thoughts, Pascal used to say that there is nothing so unbearable as complete rest without passions, jobs, entertainments, and that one is right there when one feels an emptiness in the depths of one’s soul that causes boredom. Personally, I like to be bored. That means I have free time and a few worries. In fact, I think it is a state where the privileged benefit. Kierkegaard associated boredom with creativity and claimed that this indifference caused the gods to create humanity. The idea is poetic. Painters, musicians, and artists, in general, create wonderful works out of this nothingness.
Back to work, someone who can analyze data is not the prototype of a boring person. Organized and analytical minds are admirable. So are humans who can sit still in a natural environment and simply observe the behavior of birds. Something similar happens in religion. I congratulate those who find peace in their faith, provided that they do not insist or try to suggest. I agree with someone who likes to sit in front of the TV is not very motivating and can’t get their head up from their cell phone at dinner. Smoking is shameful and I cannot interpret the data about living in the city. At this point, researchers must be bored.
