Cheats against life crisis: how to save on products without sacrificing quality

rational approach

Any purchase, including the purchase of products, requires a balanced approach. First, it’s worth taking apart your food basket and making sure all of its contents are truly essential. Or, for example, the tenth pack of napkins you keep putting in the basket thinking it won’t hurt in reserve is really unnecessary. Help in this case can be various applications that show your spending and the composition of purchases. If you forgot if there is anything unnecessary in the cart and you bought this product only yesterday, you can easily navigate.

Second, and this is very important, analyze which brands you usually buy. Now is definitely not the best time to take off the shelf products that stand out for their shiny packaging, but which are troublesome for the budget. For example, please note that in every store near the house there is a fairly large selection of good, but more budgetary. Most often they can not boast of an “attractive cover”, but the quality does not differ from their counterparts with a bright design. As a rule, these are products of their own chain brands.

This is a real trend of the last few years, and even you can find not only everyday products, but also premium options. Also, the cost can be significantly lower, up to 50%, than the cost of well-known brands. This can be achieved primarily through direct contracts between chains and manufacturers and the rejection of large-scale promotions inherent in well-known brands. As for quality, the network is responsible for it by name and reputation and therefore pays special attention to this issue. Such a product may no longer appear on the shelf if it receives regular complaints from customers.

Our journalist did an experiment not to be unfounded: he collected the usual grocery basket from the goods of popular brands and the goods of the closest chain’s own brand:.

As a result, it turns out that you can save up to 50% for individual products and from 15% to 25% for the entire shopping cart, by choosing only their own brand products.

“The result is impressive. As it turned out, it is not necessary to abandon the usual products in order to optimize your costs. It is enough just to pay attention to the other options available – the difference in price, especially in total, is very significant. As for the taste characteristics, nothing was lost here either. It turns out that the rule that everything is not so tasty on the budget is still nothing more than a misconception,” he said.

At the end of last year, the number of consumers who prefer chains’ own brands rose to 37%. Moreover, this was influenced not only by the desire to approach spending consciously, but also by the efforts of the retailers themselves. According to SberCIB, guests of Pyaterochka were the most loyal last year – 74% highly and choosing products from their own product line. At the same time, the share of private brands in Pyaterochka’s turnover in the 4th quarter of 2021 increased from 18.8% to 22.4%. Today the retailer is ready to offer an alternative to expensive or already non-existent brands in almost all categories: food, children’s products, cosmetics and even dishes.

Non-food retailers are not far behind and are launching not only toys, but even electronics and household appliances produced in partnership with partners from the EAEU.

Thus, there is ample opportunity for savings and informed shopping, and with minimal effort the result can be as positive as possible.

The mindful shopping trend emerged a few years ago and has recently become not just a tribute to fashion, but a necessity. During the crisis, as prices rise and it becomes more difficult to plan a family budget, few people can boast of the future with confidence. It is not necessary to give up something to optimize costs – for a start you can rationally approach your daily expenses. Even when shopping for essentials, there are ways to save quite a bit of money.
