War and peace

History is never one-sided. So is geopolitics. Take China, for example: Beijing cares about the war in Ukraine as much as peace. The farther you get from your borders, take full advantage of a proxy war. On the one hand, it wears out the West and above all the USA; On the other hand, it distances Washington from the central axis of Chinese interests in the Pacific and, in the short term, Taiwan. Progressive rearmament in the eastern seas tells us about the resurgence of nationalism that may make future war inevitable. There are also various political models in the background that know to contradict each other and go far beyond the traditional antagonism between capitalism and communism. Because China represents the illiberal appeal of technology and power combined in technocracy rather than communism. Without effective defense of individual rights and balances of power and without real participation in voting, China emerged as a political paradigm without freedoms, but effective when it comes to improving the living standards of the population. As a result, there aren’t a few countries in the developing world that take him as an example.

Xi Jinping is especially developing this image guardian of the third world. Therefore, besides the advantages of a distant war, he is also interested in presenting himself as a spokesperson for a non-aligned peace, a non-American peace, so to speak. And so far, it’s been successful. To the surprise of the West, Russia has not only been left alone, but has even found unexpected allies in the rest of the world. For now, China’s support for Putin is turning into diplomatic support and opening up markets, not arms sales (a red line for Biden). In an inflationary era, Russia provides the Asian giant with access to almost inexhaustible sources of cheap energy (the same resources that Germany has lost and which in recent years has been the basis of its industrial competitiveness). In this way, the entire international order is changed. “We are seeing more changes than in the last hundred years”were the words of Xi Jinping in Moscow. He said this so that they could be heard fully in everyone. And for us to take notes.

Whatever the development of the war in Ukraine – we still do not know whether it will be in the end. Kyiv will order a counterattack nor would it have resulted – what is clear is that China is not interested in Russia’s defeat, let alone overthrowing Putin. On the other hand, strengthening the political, economic and military alliance between Moscow and Beijing means a complete change in the balances that have ruled the world since the fall of the Wall. Washington aims to strengthen the role of democracies in Asia and Oceania—Japan, South Korea, Australia…—as it tries to approach India. However, Africa appears to have come under Chinese control to a large extent and Iberian-America as a whole. It’s intriguing to see how four decades of explosive growth have completely changed the face of the planet.. What was thought impossible in Tiananmen has now become a reality. The awakening of the Asian giant seems to guarantee that Russia will not be defeated for sure.
