Evidence that Russia did not exist neither before nor after the disappearance of the USSR, a democratic country or the desire to be The fall of the Berlin Wall, the outbreak of the Warsaw Pact and the 2nd War World Cup after freeing himself from the Moscow splint.

When? gorbachevBeing president of the USSR until December 1991, he approved the reunification of Germany, received Western assurances that NATO would not extend to the East, meaning that the European Union stopped expanding its influence on armed bases as far as the same Russian border. This promise was not kept, in large part due to the deep distrust instigated by Putin, and NATO made six successive enlargements involving Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania. Croatia, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia… And after the war in Ukraine, Sweden and Finland complete their memberships…

It’s not hard to understand what it is. Russian nationalismRussia, with its little democratic tradition, has felt pressured by this relocation of global geostrategic coordinates, which confines Russia to a vast wasteland with no hinterland, no real spheres of influence other than its disinterested Asian neighbors, which China envies. And from the mentality of the dictator, who thinks that he has to please his subjects in his megalomaniacal territorial ambitions, it is possible to understand that the conflict in Ukraine, whose two souls struggle to connect the east and west, respectively, is over. It provoked irredentist movements such as the conquest of Donbass and, after all, the Crimea, a peninsula that was part of Russia until the middle of the last century. The leap from border deception to open warfare in Ukraine today must be attributed to the fervent mentality of a reclusive, self-possessed subject who has spent his entire career lurking in the secret services of his country.

Nuclear threat deniedIt is clear that Russia, an economically “small” country with a GDP slightly above Spain, cannot win this war in front of the international community. This points to a terrible fate for the Ukrainians, who were subjected to endless bloody tortures. And it is Washington that really has the taps to set the pressure on the region, holding the real leadership of the Ukrainian resistance. For the US, using Russia to its fullest is objectively good news; but the success of globalization demands a peaceful world that heals its wounds without resorting to violence. And this design passes Opening an urgent negotiation so that Ukraine stops suffering and Russia can re-establish the figure to a minimum to avoid ridicule and consumption.

In these extreme cases, there are no good solutions, only less bad solutions. Edgar Morín, already a hundred-year-old prestigious intellectual, a Jew and a member of the French resistance against the Nazis, proposed a peace process in his successful book “De guerre en guerre”. In general terms, a peace based on the recognition of Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea, the transformation of Odessa and Mariupol into free ports, and a common formula of self-determination for the hybrid Donbass, where both sides covet the industrial zone. . . Of course, the deal should mean Ukraine’s entry into the European Union, although its military status can be negotiated.

In its quest for peace, where the West would undoubtedly proclaim its supremacy, peace would have to be supported by China, which would also take advantage of Moscow’s political weakness and strengthen its polarization towards the United States. And whatever the terms of the Entente, Russia, deprived of its ability to repress (including energy), will have the opportunity to regret for a long time one of its great historical mistakes without measuring the consequences.
