Three Wise Men, fact or legend?

Because he was old enough to accept the Magi’s visit, the person writing this to you was so delusional that it had accumulated in a way that prevented him from understanding the truth. For example, the questions we older children are always asking ourselves: How was it possible in NO-DO -there was no television back then-, at the parade in Madrid, at the parade in Barcelona, and then personally? Orihuela and weren’t they alike? Why were the characters different? Different beards, different costumes, some horses, other camels, etc. I think the same thing will happen to all kids these days when they see it on TV.

I think the parade that took place in Orihuela at that time was quite modest, it was clearly appreciated that everyone had their face painted. The sheets bore some burning torches that created a smoke that made the atmosphere unbreathable. It was clearly incomparable to what was done in the great capitals, and that was not what was meant; but it was lovely to us and it served its purpose, only to excite the children, especially those who live in Patronato San José Obrero -La Misericordia-, who handed out gifts to them in the same centre. later found near the church of Santiago.

Let’s leave aside the innocence of the little ones who continue with their obscurity in their little minds and focus on the questions we adults ask ourselves: What is written about the amazing fact of worshiping the astrologers? The Gospel of Matthew is based on account 2-1.2. “Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Judea. At the time of King Herod, some sages from the East appeared in Jerusalem: Where is the born king of the Jews? For we saw his star in the East and came to worship him”.

It is strange that only Matthew mentions this event in the canonical gospels. This passage is not even mentioned in the Gospel of John, the most prolific of the four.

But who could these characters be? Apparently, the name “magician” was given to the Iranian priests of the Zoroastrian religion, moreover, highly educated people were scholars of astrology and its influence on people, and therefore wise people.

In Matthew 2, 9 it is said: “After hearing King Herod, they set out, and behold, the star they had seen in the East went before them until they came and stood there and stood there child.”

It is clear that this last statement of Matthew cannot be taken literally. What we understand from the star is that it cannot stand on top of a house or where the Child is. Neither – as some have pointed out – Halley’s comet, can be a supernova, nor any planet in the solar system. How can a star in the sky get close to Earth without breaking into pieces? Rather, I am inclined to think that the Magi from the East were divinely inspired and ruled by God in front of their Son through a sign they called the “star” and possibly visualized only by themselves. Continue to Matthew 2.11. “They entered the house; They saw the boy with his mother, Mary, and worshiped him in prostration, then opened their chests and presented him with gold, incense, and myrrh.”

From this part of the story, popular tradition concludes that there were three kings as there were three chests opened. They were even named later: Melchor, Gaspar, and Baltasar; but these names are not written in any scripture, they are the fruit of the imagination of the Christian tradition, which the artists of antiquity later immortalized in their sculptures and canvases.

Legend has it that the Magi from the East, who allegedly worshiped Christ, died once, and their bodies were taken to Constantinople by Elena, mother of the Christian emperor Constantine I. They were then transferred to Milan and later buried in Cologne Cathedral, where they apparently rest now.

Fact or legend, the illusion of children and now the elderly is still beautiful on January 6 every year.
