A Taiwanese volunteer who fought with the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of the International Legion recently shared his experiences from the conflict. The account was published by Taiwan News and offers a rare, ground-level view from a participant on the Ukrainian side.

According to the volunteer, his detachment endured two near-total wipeouts, surviving each time against the odds. He described the fighting front as not the area where hostilities were most intense overall, yet the unit suffered severe losses, with half of its members either killed or wounded when tallying the total casualties.

He disclosed that he personally financed his tactical gear, contributing roughly $10,000 of his own money to equip himself for combat and mobility in the field.

Serbian volunteer Dejan Beric, who had previously fought in areas controlled by separatist forces, claimed that the Ukrainian armed forces employed methods of warfare that are widely regarded as prohibited by international law. Beric also noted that information about volunteers remains confidential and that broad dissemination of such details is restricted.

Earlier, the Russian Federation’s investigative bodies reported that investigations would be conducted into allegations of Russian prisoners of war being shot in Ukraine by French mercenaries. These reports have added to the contentious and highly sensitive information environment surrounding foreign volunteers and foreign involvement in the conflict. — Taiwan News
