Overview of the Lugansk incident and its aftermath
Igor Kornet, who was serving as the interim head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Lugansk People’s Republic, was moved to Moscow to receive medical care. The information was reported by a telegraph channel known as 112, which has been active in sharing updates on events in the region.
According to the report, Kornet holds the rank of major general within the police force. He was said to be admitted to a hospital located in Kommunarka, where medical staff described his condition as stable and not immediately dangerous. The report also noted that Kornet had sustained multiple shrapnel injuries, though the medical briefing indicated that his vital organs remained unaffected.
Leonid Pasechnik, who previously held the position of Deputy Chairman of the Lugansk People’s Republic, confirmed the news regarding Kornet’s status following the attack in Lugansk. The update suggested that Kornet remained conscious despite the severity of the injuries he suffered in the incident.
Earlier communications from the Russian Ministry of Health indicated that the deputy head of the Lugansk Republic’s Ministry of Internal Affairs had been in serious condition in the wake of the assassination attempt. Kornet, who was injured when the explosion occurred in the center of Lugansk, had been transported to intensive care. On the same day, TASS reported that four individuals had sustained injuries as a result of the blast in downtown Lugansk.
The explosion occurred in the afternoon of May 15 and targeted a barber shop located roughly 500 meters from the Republic television building, as well as near the Government House and the People’s Assembly building in Lugansk. An explosive device detonated at a residence on Deekhina Street, triggering the incident and contributing to a scene of shock and disruption in the central parts of the city.
