Croatian Defense Minister Mario Banozic sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident that occurred early Saturday. Local authorities reported that one person died in the incident and did not immediately offer hypotheses about the cause.
The crash took place near 6.15 in eastern Croatia, just outside the town of Vinkovci. The minister’s vehicle collided with a minibus for reasons that are still being investigated, and the other driver died at the scene.
Minister Banozic was taken to the hospital and placed under intensive care as a precaution while doctors monitor his condition. Officials said the decision was made to observe his evolution due to the severe head trauma and to determine whether surgical intervention would be required. The medical team is conducting continuous assessments to ensure the best possible outcome.
Government spokesperson Marko Milic confirmed on social media that the minister’s life is not in immediate danger and that an investigation has been launched. He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of the Administration, expressing thoughts for all those affected by the tragedy.
